British Tea Garden Tea Room

If you picture a little English tearoom in a rural hamlet, you may envision The British Tea Garden.   Priscilla and I made a trip north for a tea luncheon.

First Impression:  You will find the tea room in the little downtown area of Tecumseh, Michigan.

Tea Room Setting:   You can choose a booth or a little table for two.

Tea:  Loose leaf tea is served.  The leaves are in the pot and they provide you with a strainer for your cup.  Priscilla's belly was full of pineapple peppermint, a combination I had never seen before.  Over seventy options are listed on the menu.

Menu:  They offer many English dishes, cottage pie, pasties, ploughman's lunch, sandwiches, wraps, salads, etc.  I chose assorted finger sandwiches with fresh fruit, a side order of crumpets, and a pot of tea.

Tea Tidbits:  My plate held five types of finger sandwiches - chicken salad, ham with pineapple cream cheese, cucumber with dill, orange marmalade with cream cheese and strawberry cream cheese.
Sweet choices in the dessert case
Entertainment:  Soft music is playing in the background.  Murals are painted on several walls.
Service:  The service was excellent.  I was greeted while browsing in the gift shop, asked if I needed help, and they held my goodies until I finished my lunch.  My server was Alice, who was born in London, England, grew up in Oxfordshire and moved to the US fourteen years ago.  She has worked at the tea room for ten years.  She will do a bit of her English accent if you are lucky!

Gift Shop:  The gift shop is extensive.  You will find teapots, cups, trays, aprons, bags, large card selection, trinkets, books, tea accessories, huge selection of loose leaf tea for sale by the ounce, and, best of all, an entire wall of British food.

Price:  Prices vary from $7 - $9 for lunch entrees, tea is $2.75 per pot, crumpets with toppings are $3.75 and scones with toppings are $5.75.

Extras: They carry curly wurly and lion candy bars!

Alice took a photo of Priscilla and added it to their facebook page.  Priscilla feels like a movie star with her own paparazzi.

Tecumseh has some wonderful shops downtown.  Wild Iris has lady's clothes and accessories, Boulevard Market has wonderful imported and made in house cheese.

Happy Teaing!

Sips and Smiles,
Teresa

Hi Teresa,

I have been to the British Tea Garden Tea Room three or four times. It has been a couple years since I was there. From the pictures it looks about the same. I am enjoying your tea travels.

I'm glad you and the traveling teapot were able to go for afternoon tea, Teresa.

I do believe I also would enjoy this tearoom. Love the murals and booths in this tearoom. And the shop looks like it would be a fun one to browse. Yes, this teapot is definitely becoming a celebrity.
